Guarantee options

By choosing this option, you can be safe in the knowledge that your original investment is protected from market downturns, giving you peace of mind that your investment is secure.

We guarantee that at the end of the capital guarantee term you selected when the bond started, your fund value will be at least equal to 100% of your original investment, adjusted for withdrawals, no matter what happens to the markets.

When selecting this option you must also decide on your capital guarantee term, which can be from 8 through to 20 years. You must select both the option and the term at the start of your bond.

The guaranteed capital option only applies at the end of the capital guarantee term and not before or after.

Taking withdrawals will reduce the guaranteed capital option in proportion to the withdrawals taken.

The only circumstance in which the guarantees wouldn’t apply is if AEGON Ireland plc failed. In this unlikely event, the benefits from the bond may be affected.

When you take out your bond, your guaranteed capital value is set equal to your original investment.

Every year, on the bond anniversary, your fund value is reviewed and if it’s higher than your previous guaranteed capital value, it becomes your new guaranteed capital value.

Once a new guaranteed capital value is locked in, it will never go down (unless you take withdrawals), but it could go up on a future review date.

What you’ll get back

At the end of your capital guarantee term, your guaranteed capital value is the higher of:

• your original investment, or
• the highest recorded fund value from a bond anniversary 

This means, at the end of your capital guarantee term, you’ll get back the higher of:

• your guaranteed capital value, or
• your current fund value

This benefit isn’t available as a stand-alone option. You can only select it with the guaranteed capital option.

Until the end of the capital guarantee term, we’ll pay a lump sum on the death of the last life assured equal to the higher of:

• the highest recorded fund value from a bond anniversary, adjusted for any withdrawals taken, or
• 100.1% of the cash-in value of the bond

After the end of the capital guarantee term, the death benefit will be 100.1% of the cash-in value.

If you don’t opt for the guaranteed death benefit

If you don’t select the guaranteed death benefit option, then the death benefit will be 100.1% of the cash-in value of your bond when the last life assured dies.
